A Rich Merchant Gives Gold to a Poor Man
A merchant in an embroidered robe pours coins from an open chest into the hands of a poorly dressed man, while a man in a striped head-cloth rests a hand on his shoulder.
Prompt
1 Timothy 6: 'The love of money is the root of all evil... Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches... that they do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to distribute.' In the marble atrium of a wealthy Ephesian merchant's house, the rich merchant in a fine embroidered robe, large and central, turns from his open chest of gold coins and pours a generous handful into the hands of a poor labourer, while Timothy stands beside him, a hand on his shoulder, encouraging him. Bright light from the atrium opening above, a mosaic floor and a pool. The merchant and the labourer wear wrapped head-cloths over their hair. Timothy wears a wrapped striped head-cloth and a plain brown wool mantle. Style: a blend of photo-realism and cinema, like a still from a big-budget film. Bright, rich, saturated, luminous colour, clear daylight or glowing golden light even in dramatic scenes, never murky or muddy, crisp detail, real human faces full of emotion, shallow depth of field, subtle film grain. Simple, uncluttered composition: ONE clear scene from this chapter, with the chapter's main character or characters large, close and central in the upper and middle frame, and a simple background. No montage, no collage, no inset vignettes, no crowd of small figures competing for attention. Historically accurate ancient Near Eastern clothing, architecture and landscape. Keep the bottom quarter of the frame simple and uncluttered (ground, water or sky) so a large chapter number can be set over it. Absolutely no text, no letters, no words, no numbers, no logos, no watermark, no border, no frame.
