Joab Raises a Banner Before David on the Salt Flats
A scale-armoured soldier holds a red banner and clasps hands with a crowned man in blue on white salt flats. Soldiers and bare mountains are behind them.
Prompt
Psalm 60 (Michtam of David, when Joab returned, and smote of Edom in the valley of salt twelve thousand): "You have given a banner to them that fear you, that it may be displayed because of the truth... Through God we shall do valiantly: for he it is that shall tread down our enemies." On the white, glittering salt flats south of the Dead Sea, the battle-hardened commander Joab, in dusty leather armour, strides toward King David, raising a plain red cloth banner on a tall pole in triumph; David, armed and crowned, grips his hand in greeting with a fierce, grateful smile. Joab and David are large and central. Behind them the Israelite soldiers rest on the dazzling salt plain beneath the bare mountains of Edom, under a hot, brilliant blue sky. Style: a blend of photo-realism and cinema, like a still from a big-budget film. Bright, rich, saturated, luminous colour, clear daylight or glowing golden light even in dramatic scenes, never murky or muddy, crisp detail, real human faces full of emotion, shallow depth of field, subtle film grain. Simple, uncluttered composition: ONE clear scene from this chapter, with the chapter's main character or characters large, close and central in the upper and middle frame, and a simple background. No montage, no collage, no inset vignettes, no crowd of small figures competing for attention. Historically accurate ancient Near Eastern clothing, architecture and landscape. Keep the bottom quarter of the frame simple and uncluttered (ground, water or sky) so a large chapter number can be set over it. Absolutely no text, no letters, no words, no numbers, no logos, no watermark, no border, no frame.
