Paul Prays in Chains in a Roman Cell
An old man in chains stands in a stone cell with clasped hands, looking up with a calm smile. Scrolls lie on a ledge beside him.
Prompt
2 Timothy 4: 'For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness.' In a stone prison cell in Rome, Paul, now old and worn, stands large and central in chains, wrapped in his old travelling cloak, his face lifted in perfect peace and triumphant hope, bathed in a brilliant beam of warm golden sunlight streaming down through a round opening in the ceiling above him, which fills the whole cell with glowing golden light. A few papyrus scrolls and parchments lie on the stone ledge beside him. Simple warm-toned stone walls, brightly lit, luminous and hopeful, not dark. Style: a blend of photo-realism and cinema, like a still from a big-budget film. Bright, rich, saturated, luminous colour, clear daylight or glowing golden light even in dramatic scenes, never murky or muddy, crisp detail, real human faces full of emotion, shallow depth of field, subtle film grain. Simple, uncluttered composition: ONE clear scene from this chapter, with the chapter's main character or characters large, close and central in the upper and middle frame, and a simple background. No montage, no collage, no inset vignettes, no crowd of small figures competing for attention. Historically accurate ancient Near Eastern clothing, architecture and landscape. Keep the bottom quarter of the frame simple and uncluttered (ground, water or sky) so a large chapter number can be set over it. Absolutely no text, no letters, no words, no numbers, no logos, no watermark, no border, no frame.
